Pearl Harbor: The 65th Anniversary

It has been 65 years to the day, almost to the hour as I post this, that Japan attacked Hawaii. Everyone will hear more about it today than they probably care to, but I don’t see a problem with that. Every time I hear anything about WWII I think of my grandpa. He was a fantastic man. He went through more in his life than and my child probably ever will. The first World War, the depression, World War II. I wonder if I would be strong enough to take on the kind of responsibility and hardship that he faced. I’ve read that we as a nation lose over 1,000 veterans from WWII each day. How many people from that greatest generation who didn’t serve do we lose each day? 2,000? 5,000? I wonder if the coming generations — my generation — has the strength of character to live lives like that which my grandpa did. I hope we do.

Yeah, I think of my grandfather as well. Lately I’ve been on a WWII kick, Band of Brothers, Private Ryan, watching History Channel, that war alone shames me for my pettiness and what I consider “hardships”.

I know what you mean. Band of Brothers is one of my top 5 most enjoyable viewing experiences. Talking with my grandpa made me realize how comfortable my life really was/is.

Go ahead and comment. I won't make fun of you too much.
