Bots on The Ground – washingtonpost.com

An Army colonel called a stop to a test in which a multi-legged, spider-like robot found and blew up land mines. The most effective way to find and destroy a land mine is to step on it. Every time the robot found a mine, it blew it up and lost a limb, the robot picked itself up and readjusted to move forward on its remaining legs, continuing to clear a path through the minefield. The reason the Army colonel halted the demonstration of the successful robot? He said the test was inhumane.
