Flexport approached me after 4 years of leading design for the Comms team at Yahoo, and I found the idea intriguing. It was an enterprise product that delivered value to a remarkably under severed product space. Globally, there are tech solutions that focus on several aspects of the logistics space, but nothing targeting freight forwarding in the way that Flexport was aiming to. The pitches during my interviews talked of how they were going to target much more than freight forwarding, and it sounded like an appealing challenge. I was brought in to help level-up the visual design and craft of the team, and to drive the vision and design of the mobile experience.
I was the director of product design for two teams while at Flexport: Platform and Client. While leading the Client app team, I also led the Trade & Financial Services team. As with Yahoo, my role also included a fair amount of work to grow the culture and craft of the design team. Coaching, mentoring, and teaching were large parts of my daily work at Flexport.
